Eight stops, from antiquity to now, in an area limited to Piazza del Duomo and neighboring areas.
The Cathedral (cornersotne laid in 1290) is one of the most famous cathedrals in the world. In style it reflects the centuries employed in building it. The ground plan is Romanesque, but Lorenzo Maitani's additions to the facade and the transept trasformed the building in line with Gothic canons. Inside are the marvelous frescoes by Fra Angelico, Luca Signorelli ad Ugolino d'Ilario.
The National Archaeological Museum,with Etruscan finds from the area of Orvieto. Not to be missed are the detached frescoes from the Golini tombs.
Museum od the Opera del Duomo (MODO), recently reopened, contains real materpieces of sacred art, including the altarpiece by Simone Martini and Coppo di Marcovaldo's Madonna.
“C.Faina” Archaeological Museum, is one of the most prestigious collections od its kind. Etruscan and Attic material, marvelous vases such as those by the painter Exekias. It also includes the Municipal Museum with the splendid Venus of Cannicella.
Orvieto Underground, or the city beneath the city. A spectacular complex of man-made caves and grottoes bearing witness to various periods in time fron the Etruscan up.
Torre del Moro (the Tower) with a breath-taking and unusual view of the city from on high.
Emilio Greco Museum, with its fine collection of works donated to the city by the maestro who designed the bronze doors of the cathedral.
The Mancinelli Theater, heart of the city's cultural life.
